Backun Care Kit

Fit and Sizing Chart

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

This kit is designed to help clarinet players take proactive care of their wooden or synthetic instruments. Each quality product included was carefully considered to give players exactly what they need, and nothing they don’t. Alongside yearly maintenance by a qualified repair technician, careful attention to a woodwind instrument is required to prevent cracking, while making sure the instrument is in top performance condition.

Note: For sanitary reasons, care kits are final sale.

Backun Wood + Care Tips

Always use a Boveda pack inside your case to regulate the humidity and protect your wooden instruments and accessories. Included is a Boveda 49% High Absorbency 40g pack. Don’t worry if the pack fluctuates from crystal to liquid form, it’s designed that way! Before you put one in your case, write the date on the top, so you’ll know when to replace it with a fresh pack. We suggest replacing the pack every three months!

Backun Bore Oil

Backun Bore Oil is enriched almond oil that protects and hydrates your wooden instrument and accessories. Add six drops to the middle of a clean swab, rubbing the swab in your hands to saturate the cloth. Then pull the swab through an assembled clarinet (no mouthpiece!) six times. We recommend you do this with the changing of the seasons. Don’t forget to wash the swab after each oiling.

Use the disposable cleaning brush to clean your instrument’s tone holes, making sure to be gentle while working in a circular motion. Don’t forget to clean the register and thumb tubes, too!

When using the Fix-It Tool to tighten pivot and adjustment screws, less is more! Make sure you tighten the screw with light pressure, just until it stops. Be sure not to overtighten the screw.

If your instrument has silver, or silver plated, keywork, keep one anti-tarnish strip inside your case at all times. This will help prevent tarnishing of the keywork and posts, which can be mitigated through attentive use of the polishing cloth after each playing session.

Vacuum your case clean every few months to prevent any dust, dirt or pet hair from affecting the tone holes and pads.

Also take the time to clean your corks and tenons by removing any excess cork grease that has built-up over time.
