"This mouthpiece has cover, warmth, vibrancy and ease of articulation. It is extremely even across the registers and plays well in tune. It is a combination of a lot of the things I look for in the many mouthpieces I’ve played over my career. In my career I need a mouthpiece that can do many different things such as play chamber music, play a Mahler symphony, play excerpts and concertos. This does it. We’re very excited to introduce it to the world."
- Anthony McGill, International Soloist and Principal Clarinet, New York Philharmonic
"As I have witnessed Anthony’s talents since he was in high school, his many years in opera, orchestral and solo playing, my biggest challenge in design was to find a voice in this McGill Signature mouthpiece that would have Anthony's depth of tone, ring and evenness with superior response and volume in all registers of the instrument. I believe this McGill model captures the essence of his wonderful voice with an ease and fluidity for today's performers."

Once I found the right reed for it (Legere 2.75 - 3 European cut for me) the playing became effortless, and the tone pleasingly dark and even across all the registers. The notes in the throat are particularly rich compared to my old mouthpieces. This is a keeper - especially with my recently acquired Backun barrel! And it's the first new mouthpiece for me since I was a student in the late '80's. Looking forward to exploring its potential in folk music, and the upper ranges of the altissimo as I adapt to synthetic reeds. Thank you Backun!
I love this mouthpiece! It has quickly become my go to mouthpiece over the B40 lyre that I used to play. It has a very flexible range of colors while still being easy to play and centered. The intonation is predictable and spot on as well. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.
Wow, such clean and immediate response in all registers! There is warmth and nice color variation in the tone I get with this mouthpiece. And the swirl design is so cool- most fun looking mouthpiece I’ve ever played on!
This mouthpiece was worth the wait. It’s my new favorite by a land slide. The tone across all registers is perfection, great articulation, smooth like honey, and it’s gorgeous too. The ease of playing is unmatched, so balanced, and it has its own unique sound and feel. An absolute delight to play!
So far, so good. It seems to pair with my LeBlanc Concerto clarinet fairly well (haven't tried it with the A yet). Technically, it isn't much different (as far as tip opening or facing length) than what I'm used to (one reason why I selected this model), but I like the sound better. Looks like I'll need to carry a bit of avocado oil, but can do. Haven't gotten a big tariff bill yet, so that's good.
Oh, this is what the clarinet is supposed to sound like.
I absolutely love the tone color that the McGill has. It’s made my playing experience a lot more enjoyable and I’m always looking forward to practicing again on it. Highly recommend for those who like to make their clarinets sing!
Cette embouchure améliore le jeu et facilite la qualité sonore. Il est plus facile de monter dans les notes aiguës et en plus, les notes sonnent avec précision.
I've had the honor of playing on Backun Musical Services mouthpieces from the Camerata, Vocalise, and Signature. This mouthpiece has a beautiful sound and articulation. I can simulate the wonderful sound of Maestro McGill and with a simple reed change be ready to play in an orchestra pit or dixieland.
Bravo Anthony, Richard, and Morrie!
So far, excellent sound and intonation. Looking forward to exploring it further with different ligature and reed choices. I play a Backun MOBA, and have been using the 65 mm MOBA barrel so far.
